[Opinions] Re: Sister Boniface Mysteries
in reply to a message by Canielle
I watch this series too. I like British mysteries. This one is kind of weird and not very realistic. Sister Boniface is so busy helping the police that I never see her doing any "nun duties" very much. I don't think any religious order would tolerate a member being distracted so much from their official obligations. How did she become so proficient in science and yet she's a nun? Did she take science in university or theology/divinity? Oh that's a mystery in itself! Anyway, to the names.
Like/Love
Sterling
Bramwell (so very British to me)
Felix
Sam
Jupiter (guilty pleasure)
I'm not a fan of any of the girls names. I do love the name Boniface but the saint was MALE so I like it for a boy.

Many nuns have jobs. After Vatican II nuns were allowed to keep their given names and work. This was set in the '60s, so nuns were just allowed to work outside the convent. Sister Boniface would have received that name once she became a nun.
Also, not everyone comes to religious vocations young. A priest I knew was an architect. Another has a BA in English. And just because it become a priest/nun doesn't mean you stop learning. It's not a prison sentence where you spend your life forced to do religious work 24/7.
