Don't like, Holly is so much better

Hollis is a guy's name. Would never call him Holly. Holly is a stand alone for a girl, however. Hollis on a girl is cringe worthy.

I think I have a second cousin named this. Or maybe it's spelled Hollice. I'm not sure. I was never fully certain if her full name was actually Hollis or if it was like a nickname. Her mother was the only one who ever called her that, and it was always done in a formal way, like when she was being stern with her.

I agree that Holly is far better than Hollis. Hollis sounds like a boy name, but Holly would be a cute NN for a woman named Hollis.

If I was so inclined, I could have a tree family and they would be named Hollis, Laurel & Rowan.

I think it's sweet. Holly is just as nice, but Hollis feels more natural and gentle. I actually have encountered a Hollis (dont know her personally), but she's an elementary school teacher and that's who I think of when I hear the name. I don't see what's so bad about it. I don't think that just because a similar name is more popular makes it the better or more sensible choice.
