In about 1883, Josephus Daniels, a newspaper editor in a nearby town, came up with the name based on his friends, sisters, Lucy, Carrie, and Mary Borden. Lucama's claim to fame is it was the home of Vollis Simpson, a whirligig folk artist. He used scrap metal to make kinetic structures up to 50 feet tall.
