I never thought about Jocelyn that way but now that I think about it, I agree. It was popular for my generation after Marilyn, Carolyn, Evelyn, etc. were already "mom names" and I don't know why!
I don't get why Harper is popular for girls, it seems like a name that would be more popular for boys. And it's so different from the other girls names ranked at the top of the US list. The popular girls names seem like mostly a list of hyperfeminine styles with a sprinkling of very tomboyish names with not a lot in between. Madison, Riley, Avery, Harper, Addison, Parker, Sloane .. Madison and Addison seem somewhat feminine at first because I'm used to them being girls names, but sound-wise they're really just unisex or masculine.
I think Ezra is cool but I'm surprised that it's popular. The consonants are more complicated than most popular names, and the overall sound is quite feminine. I'm also surprised about Ezekiel, but maybe "Ez" is popular?
I'm also surprised about Genesis - it doesn't seem very namey, but Gen sounds like Jen and I suppose I see the appeal of the "-is" ending.
I definitely don't understand Everleigh or any kind of -leigh, and not just because I hate it.
Never understood the appeal of Jaxson. I can see how Jaxon sounds like Jackson but the pronunciation of Jaxson doesn't even make sense. It would be so lispy. The one I know just pronounces it Jackson but it still looks wrong.
I also don't understand why the full name Ellie is so popular. I would expect anyone called Ellie to have a different full name, even if it's just Ella. It would be weird to me to meet someone whose full formal name was Ellie, but apparently it's very common? I just don't understand what makes someone want to name their kid Ellie instead of Ella "Ellie", Eleanor "Ellie", Eliana "Ellie", [any ___elle name] "Ellie"... ? There are so many options, why would you make your baby have a kiddie name for their whole life?
