Still known as a slang term here but there is nothing wrong with either name on their own. Jack, Ian and Iain are all nicknames for John here so I wouldn’t be surprised to meet a John called Jack.

The slang trivia makes it much more interesting! I love that.

Where I'm from, Jack isn't a natural nickname for John, so if you want Jack, use Jack. Jack Thomas is pretty nice, it has energy. John Thomas is nothing special to me, although I do like the repetitive "Jon-Tom" sounds.

You could go with Jackson Thomas or Thomas Jackson to avoid the D.H. Lawrence reference.

Do people still read DH Lawrence? If not, then go ahead.

Jack is an excellent name; I do prefer it as a nn, but even as a stand-alone it's good.

I didn't know this till I was grown, but apparently John Thomas is famous among classic-literature lovers as the slang word for penis used in "Lady Chatterley's Lover."

Strong, traditional, and perfectly handsome. Plus there's the subtext.

If you like it, go for it. Both names are classics, and infinitely preferable to some of the whacko names that are heard nowadays. In Britain (and perhaps America, I just don't know) "John Thomas" was, a couple or so generations ago, a slang term for the male organ, but I don't know whether that's a fact today!

John Thomas has no flavor as a combo. The nickname Jack was possibly supposed to make it stand out but unfortunately it does not. Thomas Jack or Jack Thomas would have been a tad less boring, but I've always liked Jack and Thomas more than John so I could be biased.

I think it's a fine combo. John and Jack are common names in my family so I have a sentimental attachment to them.

It's a good name. I do like Jack as a nickname for John. My grandfather (coincidentally named Thomas) had a brother, John, who went by Jack, and I always thought that was a good nickname.
