[Opinions] India
What are your thoughts on India? It's rather popular in Spain right now and has always been kind of popular in Britain.
I love the sound, but wouldn't want to use it. Can you suggest names with a similar sound? I personally don't really like Indiana or Indira.
Sort of similar in sound, style or rhythm. I feel like Lydia would fit, but don't really like it as much.

I'm very torn about this name. In some ways, it's the ultimate GP. On two separate occasions, I've posted in the polls about this.
For the first poll (now archived), I asked about general perceptions of the parents of a little India today: https://www.behindthename.com/polls/311425
For the second poll, I tried to target just Indian / South Asian users of BtN: https://www.behindthename.com/polls/347902. Given this site's anonymity, I don't know how accurate those results are, but I found the disparity intriguing.
Still, if you go onto the comments on the name itself, you will find Asians who are quite angry that the colonial name for their country is being given to children of groups that did the colonizing.

I think it's quite a pretty-sounding name. I know an India who'd b about fifty or so now. In the US, it seems to be used mainly by black people.
Indiana is too Jonesy for me to like. Lydia has the same rhythm, but the vibe is totally different.
Maybe Belinda or Melinda? But honestly, if India's sound and vibe are what attract you to it, there really isn't going to be a substitute.

I know an India, with flaming red hair and a restless social life. I'm rather neutral about it -- it's a nice name, but most people will associate it with the country, and, well, not many people seem to like place names. Unfortunately, I couldn't recommend a similar name.
I think it’s pretty but does just make me think of the country.

Personally, I think it is closely related to the country.
