[Opinions] Amaryllis
Hi! It's been a while since I last posted. I've been back recently looking up some things and came across Amaryllis. It's one of those names that I always thought sounded old lady-ish and I didn't like it, but it's growing on me now. Does this happen to anyone else? Do you dislike a name and then it starts sounding good to you? Also, how do you feel about Amaryllis, just in general? I don't plan to name a child this or anything. TIA!

I like Amaryllis, but it's quite impractical in modern English and had the potential to lead to lots of spelling errors. However, the Spanish variant Amarilis seems to be catching on in Latin American communities (purely anecdotal observation).
As for disliking a name before it starts sounding good to me, this has happened with a few recently:
Alice
Caroline
Edith
Harriet
Edit--Add Mildred to this list.

Amaryllis is lovely and totally usable, in my opinion, since it can be shortened to Amy, Ama, Mari, Rilla, etc.
I don't think it's especially usable as a person's name. Even as a character name it feels like a princess and/or Victorian cliche.
I love Amaryllis, it’s been a favourite since childhood. I think it’s usable.
It's ok
I like how frilly and intricate Amaryllis sounds. It’s an underused flower name, and amaryllis flowers are very pretty. I think it would work well as an interesting middle name to a one-syllable first name. It’s usage is far too rare for me to associate it with any particular age group.
