[Opinions] Re: Current Female Long List- Destroy! Roast! Tear down and rebuild!
I really like most of the names on your list. It would probably be really boring to see a list of me gushing over the ones that I like, so I’m going to mostly Zoom in on the ones that got a more acidic response. Adela / Adelia – Do you really like both equally? Between this and Adrienne / Adriana, the list is off to a repetitious sounding start.
Aimee – Part of the beauty of Amy is in its simplicity. Aimee is overstretched. The double -ee is like a scream as it is pulled to the longest length possible.
Ameline – Is this pronounced like aim line? It sounds like a brand of rifle scopes.
Brindle – This has an attractive sound. It is fun to say like tinkling bells. Unfortunately, it makes me think of breeding for a particular coat pattern. Wendell or Briony might be alternatives.
Cecette – This screams Francophile while also not sounding like a name that actual French people would use. It is like an imposter that learned French but would get pointed out in Among Us.
Delphinium – I am fond of delphiniums. I sorta like this, but it is just a bit too much. It’s like Petunia or Hyacinth where it almost sounds overbearing. Delphi would be an adorable nickname though. Delphinia seems more namey.
Emerald – Well, it is more interesting than Diamond, but , like a lot of things that try to sound expensive, it somehow feels cheap. I feel the same way about Ruby. Pearl and Jasper are a bit different since they have metaphor/religious significance that give them an added dimension. The alchemical associations of Emeralds are cool.
Emmalyn – Eminem should have named his daughter this.
Enola – Bombs away! The whole alone spelled backwards spiel in Enola Holmes wasn’t great either. If I were going to use an anagram of alone, I prefer Leona. Given that Enola Holmes’s mother was a terrorist, it almost has double bomb associations.
Ginger – Cute on a dog. Cliché on a redhead.
Harmony – And she fought every day of her life.
Historia – History is nice, histrionics not so much. This name splits the difference and makes me think of a really dramatic historian.
Hyacinth – If you haven’t encountered a “Keeping Up Appearances” rerun, there might be episodes on YouTube. The central character is a social climber determined not to be considered common.
Jacquetta – It sounds like an expensive sandwich that turns on to be ham &cheese with mustard on a baguette or something. Similar names that I like better - Bernadette, Yvette, Nicoletta, Lisette.
Lilith – “I AM TRANSGRESSIVE!” Proceeds to lead a normal, average life but with extra eyeliner.
Margery –Margarine, which masquerades as butter but isn’t, in human form.
Millie – singing while dancing through a prairie while wearing gingham and a straw hat.
Mirabelle – A Holstein cow that knows all the barnyard gossip.
Nymeria – This is neat!
Olive – speared on a toothpick and sloshed in a martini or impaled on a sandwich.
Opal – The jewel of choice of formidable matrons. Perhaps worn in a velvet purple turban with a few ostrich plumes sticking out.
Primrose – The more timid and prim and proper version of the rose.
Vidia – I love this name! It is a personal favorite although I probably won’t use it.
Yvaine –A valiant female knight.
