[Opinions] Dilemma
We have a bit of a dilemma, we have a 4 month old named Emily and we've already decided that if we were to have another girl we'd name her Sophie Elizabeth Maree (Elizabeth and Maree are family names). The dilemma is that my best friend (been friends for 26 years) and his wife are about to have a girl who they plan to name Sophie Lee. Due to our busy schedules we don't get to hang out very often, mainly through text and messenger. Sophie has been on my baby name list since 2010 (top 5). Do we keep Sophie or change it? If we change it, what would you suggest?

I don’t think there’s much reason for you to change the name. If both you and your friend happen to love and use Sophie, so what? Both kids could have different nicknames and it’s not like you’re “stealing” the name. I’d say if you still really love and want to use this name when the time comes, do it.
If you do change the name I’d say shuffle it, use an alternative like Sophia, or use a different name with the same meaning so that it still has some connection to the original name.

I feel like I would wait until I was having another girl to discuss it with best friend and his wife to see what they think. There’s no use discussing it until it’s an actual issue, in my opinion.
As a completely fresh alternative, I would suggest Clare, or maybe Alice. Or you could shuffle the name and have Elizabeth Sophie Maree.

I agree with flossie.
Sylvie could be another option.

I agree you should still use the name. Whenever there is a conversation involving both of them in the future, you can just add the middle names to make clear which one you are talking about. There is nothing odd or weird about referring to "Sophie Maree" (or "Sophie Elizabeth") vs. "Sophie Lee" to keep them apart.
Name her Sophia. Then you can call her Sophie quite naturally while still keeping her separate from your friend's daughter.
Keep it. Or at least don't change your mind just because of this. Most people go through their lives with other people sharing their first names, even other people in their circle of acquaintance, and turn out just fine.
I’d keep it. There’s nothing wrong with sharing your name with someone else! If it really bothers you, you could switch the order of the names like sprout suggested.
I think it’s fine, don’t really see the issue, especially as you’re not even currently pregnant with a girl.
Keep it
Talk to your friend, see what they think. You could always mix the combo up a bit - Elizabeth Sophie Maree?
I think you should keep it! If you're having doubts about it, you should talk to your friend. Ask them for their feedback about the situation. It could be cool that your children both share a name!
I'd keep it
