[Opinions] Re: Cosmina, Ismene, Janiya
in reply to a message by Ani
Cosmina- meh. Cosima would be better, but I’m not a huge fan of that name either.
Ismene- it’s roots are cool but I wouldn’t use it for anything. It’s too goddess-like.
Janiya- I think I’ve met a Janiya. It’s a solid name but it’s not my style at all, lol.

Also, Ismene is not a good namesake. She’s an incest child… I haven’t read Oedipus, but does she do anything else besides just be sorta in the background?

I'd say she's a good namesake. She advises Antigone not to bury Polynices, as the punishment for doing so is death, and makes it clear she finds her sister's course of action foolish, but when Antigone is caught, Ismene declares she has aided her (despite not having done so) and that she too deserves death. Antigone, however, exposes her lie so as not to allow her sister to become a martyr, and thus, Ismene becomes the most tragic of her siblings by virtue of having outlived them all.

I think it would be funny if a girl named Ismene had siblings. Most people may not get that reference though.
