Do what you will with “Eve”. Evelyn, Evie, Evangeline, plain Eve, even Everly or Everleigh. But Ever? She’s going to get puns the rest of her life. No.

Absolutely not. It doesn't sound like a name, at all.

If I could ignore that it is a word, I would like the sound of it. But I cannot. And as a word name Ever just seems rather... empty.

Silly meaning, and much too close to Eva. Which is preferable, though I'd prefer Eve.

It's funny! Like a person named Always or Anytime, only it sounds more lugubrious than those.
As a name it seems incomplete, and as a word-name it's just vapid.
I don't understand the appeal, personally.
But it's as okay as most not-so-great word names - for someone else; and better than many.
Better than Everly or Dash ... about as decent as Nevaeh, Blue, or Nova.
