I wouldn't be thrilled being named after that show, either. And especially if neither of my parents were Japanese, and therefore couldn't even try to convince me that literally anything else was the reason for it.
Regardless, if a child wants to be called something else, the general rule would be to allow them, even if they don't have a "good" reason to dislike their name.
