[Opinions] Re: I’m bored so...

1. If you had twins today (Whatever gender you want), what would you name them?
Lucy and Jack
Lucy and Mary
Jack and James
2. Would you ever give your first name as a child’s middle name?
Yes.
3. If not, what about your middle name as your son/daughters middle name as well?
Well, I didn't switch my names around because I'm such a fan of what is now my mn. But I could, I don't hate it either.
4. You are forced to give your son a feminine name, and you daughter a masculine one. What are their names? (You can add a middle name)
James for a girl and Kelsey for a boy.
5. Do you prefer names with history to it or is it completely coincidental?
I don't care for the history of a name when I decide whether I like it. But I like honouring names, so I guess I like when they have history for me personally.
6. Does a name not being ‘genuine’ enough bother you?
Do you mean like new, creative names? I don't tend to like them immediately because I often find the spellings and sound choices awkward. But I loved, e.g. Arrietty from the second I saw it, so the name being new on its own doesn't bother me.
7. How do you feel about accents with names? Would you ever use a name with one? (Ex: Chloë, Renée, Anaïs.)
I find it incredibly pretentious to use accents that don't exist in the language context the person and their kid will exist in. But like, hey, if you want to make your kid's life that much more difficult, then who am I to stop you.
8. What do you think of names with different spelling from the original?
"Original" is kinda vague. You go back far enough and things can get quite interesting. Just because one spelling emerged as the dominant one doesn't mean it's more "original". Which is the original Mae or May? Sometimes I go to look up historical usage of some names and I get something like "Olive: Olif (1379), Olive (1279), Olyff (1581), Olyffe (1579), Olyve (1202)" and I don't feel like I'm entitled to say who was right or who was first.
That said, I usually dislike spellings that are uncommon, I usually prefer the more familiar options. It often seems to me that if one likes the sound of the name, why not just stick with a spelling that most people will associate with that name? Why go and complicate it? And I just like the comfort of familiar things.
9. Do you like nicknames for your child or even yourself? Or do you prefer the full name?
I love nicknames. I think a good name should have a form that immediately conveys affection. But I would often prefer the full name as the legal name.
10. Has the pandemic changed your taste in names?
No, I don't think so.
11. You and your partner just chose the name for your child. You both love it and have no doubts in mind. Your entire family hates it. Do you still keep the name?
Yes. Unless, they can make a good argument that we haven't thought of.
12. What is one name that’s popular you actually think deserves it’s time in the light? It can be one for a boy and one for a girl.
Jack.
13. What is one baby name tradition or trend that you don’t like? It can be anything.
Juniors are weird as heck to me.
14. What (type) name automatically makes you (Or would make you?) lose respect for a parent?
I'm sure there are choices that would make me get suspicious of a parent and judgemental towards them but I don't think I would immediately lose respect without some additional context. I'm obviously omitting names like Adolf (and even then, if it's like a mn, I could probably accept extenuating circumstances).
