[Opinions] Antigone
I saw this in posh British birth announcements a few times.
Do you think Antigone could get popular? Do you like it?
I hate the meaning but like the sounds.

The myth is just too depressing and I don’t find the sound very pretty either.
Oh, definitely a guilty pleasure name. I liked it instantly, but when I think about it, I hate it.
I like it in an abstract way more than a practical one. It feels like the spiritual sister to Eurydice to me. Both I like in a general way but would be about shocked to come across it in the wild. Antigone I feel has no chance at popularity here in the US but if it's making the round in the UK who knows, maybe it'll take root.
Don't like it
I'm guessing they'll call her Tiggy.
I think she's one of the most interesting characters in Greek tragedies, and it sounds nice. The meaning "compared to birth" doesn't bother me. I think it's fun to see anti(ante)-gone in it, too, like "before loss" as a fabricated meaning rounds it out somehow.
I think it could work as a name in the US but would just be regarded as a pleasant curiosity when people encountered it, rather than something fashionable. Americans don't know the story, and it looks like a brand of pest repellent, regardless of how it's actually pronounced. I guess if there was a character named Antigone in a huge franchise, it'd get about as much use as Hermione's getting.

I remember reading about Antigone for my college literature class. It was low-key interesting. Yeah a person would be hard pressed to find an American that knows the story at the drop of a hat I think.
I don’t particularly like the sound, but I really hate how it looks like Anti-Gone, which doesn’t make sense but makes me imagine an acne cream or anti fungal medication.
I adore Antigone! I'm in the US and doubt it will ever become popular.
