I think the name Matthew is quite nice and Matteo/Mateo is just as fantastic. I suppose I prefer the Matteo spelling, but I like both.

In the US it often just seems like a cop-out replacement for the overused Matthew, to me. Like Mason for Jason, only more so.
It's a good name, though. I prefer Mateo, maybe because it doesn't have Matt in it (I like Matt / Matthew okay but not thrilled by it as a baby name)

I think Matteo is my favorite spelling but I also like Mattheo/Matheo
