It's tacky imo. Too bad, because the sound of it is so fashionable and not unpleasant. It's almost ironic, self-describing.
If not for the heavy handed marketing of mermaids and sirens in pop culture, and the repulsive things they actually represent, it could sound nice. Like a modern elaboration of Lori.
Lorelei Camille sounds alright I guess. Lorelei Kallisto, if you want to double down.
I think Lorelei Lavender is laughably tacky (sorry).
I'd give a Lorelei some siblings that sound similarly cold and slippery to me, but as usable too: Lorelei, Aviana, Winter, Mallory, Auberon, Severin

It’s genuinely bewildering to me that you think it’s tacky, like I can’t figure out where that vibe would come from. I also didn’t know people could be, like… averse to mermaids, haha.

I dunno, it just seems tacky. Sort of analogous to how I feel about certain fads of the past, like Chastity or Sheena or Racquel. I mean, those are not bad either, but look at the vibe they have now. I feel like that's where Lorelei is headed.
Mermaids are just too associated with siren behavior, and are too monstrous for me. I guess that makes me exceptional - probably most people think mermaids are just fun folklore or whatever. I've just read too many tales in which they're malevolent, or at least tricksterish, and thought too hard about how the idea of them is sorta creepy and seems gynophobic. They're more like harpies, less like nymphs who're womanlike. They sometimes seem vaguely fetishy. In Disneyfied culture, they're a cute fun thing for young swimmers to pretend at ... I get that, it was fun to imagine swimming like a mermaid when I was a little girl! But I also remember I didn't want to think too hard about how mermaids went potty, or got born, or where they got their modest little bikini tops.
