Help[Opinions] Lucifer...but on a girl.
I think the name Lucifer is pretty overrated even without the devil association, however. A person in the Facts board claimed they are a women and their name is Lucifer. So what do you think? How would you feel with you were born as a girl named Lucifer?

No, no, definitely not! Not usable for a girl, or a boy. Let’s be honest, the only people who would actually use this name would either being someone involved in satanic practices or someone very unintelligent and looking for attention.

I'd be a completely different person with different parents, if I was named that, but, as I am, I think I would have found a way to enjoy being named it, especially where I grew up (a kid on the playground called me a heathen once because I went to a Methodist church instead of a Baptist one, seriously). I do prefer it to Lilith and Rebel. I could make a joke of it and say I was born to be the devil's advocate, or there's that Elie Wiesel story in which only the devil will defend God. In a way, it seems perfect for a defense attorney's daughter. I doubt it would do me any favors on job applications, but I could apply as Lucy probably.

OT but lol that brings me back... when I was growing up in the rural Midwest, "Heathen" or "Godless Heathen" was the equivalent to the N word, the W word or the F word all rolled into one. Non-religious people might not understand it but in some Baptist circles in the US it's considered the worst thing you could be called. Period. And they toss it around like a slur. A person named Lucifer here would be 100% sure they and their parents would be referred to as it, & with regularity...

It could work on a cat if the owners want to be edgy or follow in the foot steps of Cinderella's step family.
When used to name a human, it reflects poorly on the parents. It is synonymous with names like Devil or Satan. Of course, no one will think the child is demonic just because of her name, but they might either think that the woman named herself, in which case she would seem attention seeking, or that her parents were like those people who deliberately name their kid something with terrible associations because they have a screw loose. They have an ax to grind or a point to make and aren't thinking about their kids.
Thankfully, Lucifer could very easily use the nickname Lucy.

I don't particularly have that much against Lucifer on a girl any more than I do on a boy, I just think it's a bold choice. But man. This person's full name is a lot. I guess some people may treat their children as their OC's and really do name them in the same fashion but it's just very extra and I can't imagine it being easy having a name that will make some people think of 2000's fanfiction tropes. Just one hell of a name, definitely leaves an impression.
If it was something like Lucifer Jane Smith, I'd be much more willing to believe the parents just genuinely liked the name rather than choosing it for the shock value. But if your aim is to have as many people as possible doing double takes at your kid's name then I don't think there's a better choice than cramming in Lucifer, Venus, Morningstar and an unusual spelling of Abigail in there. Certainly very striking. As a wearer of an unusual first name (and only first name), I'm guessing I wouldn't personally enjoy that much but I guess it suits some people.

I like it more than i might want to admit. For a specifically feminine usage, it sounds almost like a mashup of Lucy and Jennifer.
Lucy would be a nice nickname as well - a lovely name in itself but far more commonplace/established, so a Lucifer would have that as one potential option, if she felt it suited her. I could also easily imagine a young Lucifer being called by Lulu or Lula.
It could definitely be a heavy name to give a child, for societal perception of it alone. I couldn't name my own hypothetical child Lucifer, despite not personally caring about the biblical associations. I still actually like it as a feminine name.

I disagree, I think anyone with even a nugget of knowledge about abrahamic religion or the origin of the story of Lucifer would consider it synonymous with naming your child Devil. I'm not even particularly religious anymore but it just screams evil and I don't understand the appeal of wanting to name your child something so horrendous as devil for the life of me. *Satan Worshipers aside, but even for them one would assume it was blasphemous*

Personally, I don’t have a religious bone in my body and I would gladly use a name even if it is considered “too religious”, or evil.
However, I must say naming your child Lucifer is definitely not the best choice. Especially for a girl. At least be generous enough to put it as a middle name. Names like Lilith, Hecate, or really any names with pretty dark associations that isn’t Lucifer are fairly acceptable because it isn’t so annoyingly obvious and look like you’re trying so hard.
Naming your kid Isis or Adolf isn’t a beautiful idea because it’s associated with horrible evil. But even then a child named that isn’t getting it half as bad as a Lucifer would. Sometimes I feel like we need to punish the associations, not the name itself and take away its shine. So in my opinion, maybe you should take a look at our society first before making a kid Lucifer. It has a lovely meaning, decent, fun to play with, and it’s very powerful. I think we can appreciate that, but maybe let’s stick with Lucian, Lucy, Lucille, etc. And come back to this circa 200 years.

Lilith was sooo try-hard and obvious before it got common. Every evil-turned-cute/ambiguous/respectable name has to start somewhere.

It's not the same. Adolf was a human who committed real world atrocities. Lilith is a demon. Lucifer is an angel. If Lilith can be embraced, so can Lucifer.
