I'm no fan of Dora, or indeed of Doris. I once read a kiddies' book where the author was trying to be funny all the time; one of the characters (it was fake-medieval) was Lady Ida Dora Mann. If ever a joke fell flat ... !
That said, my mother knew a Deborah whose nn was Dora. I thought it made a pleasant change.
