What do you think of Polly? Would it be weird to meet a young, American Polly? I’m really liking it lately!

If you had to use Polly or Poppy, which one would you choose?

Please rate my lists. All of them are ratable except for the Main list and the Surname list. :)

I would love to meet a young American Polly. And I would choose it over Poppy any day. The love some people have for Poppy is a complete mystery to me.

I think Polly is very cute. It’s cute as a given name and as a nickname for Mary and for names like Paula, Paulette, Pauline etc.

I don’t like Poppy at all. I’m not a fan of flower names other than Lily or perhaps Iris.

It's lovely, though I prefer it as a nickname for Mary. I'd love to meet one. I'd use Polly rather than Poppy.

I never realized Polly could be a nickname for Mary. I guess because Molly could be and Polly is based on Molly? Seems like a stretch in this day and age even though that’s where it’s roots came from

I think Polly is very sweet, with a lovely, fresh yet vintage vibe. I do much prefer Molly or Holly though. Out of Polly and Poppy, I would absolutely choose Poppy, which I find to be a lovely name and the flowers are gorgeous too. Most people here hate Poppy with a passion though, which I have never understood.

I used to really like Poppy but ultimately removed it from my list because I hate how it sounds in my Chicago accent. Plus, I call my grandfather papa and it sounds a little too similar. Likewise, I don’t think Poppy sounds good / works for many Americans and that might be where the widespread dislike comes from on this bored? Otherwise, I know a lot of people just find it too cutesy.

I have a Chicago accent too and I don't think it sounds ugly in our accent :)

You know, I just recorded myself saying it a few times and I guess it really isn’t so bad. I think I’ve just been conditioned here in Texas to think that certain sounds sound weird / bad when I say them

I've always loved Polly, and never had any time for Poppy at all. It would be unexpected to meet a young South African Polly, though I'd love to; names-wise, it seems that Americans can cope with most things.

And I love the fact that most of us, anyway, aren't airports ... !

I like Polly. It seems fresher than Molly and has similar roots. I prefer Polly to Poppy.
The Chronicles of Narnia is cool-tie in for Polly.

Polly pocket. It's a good name, though. I prefer it as a nickname.

I would go with Paula nicknamed Polly. Poppy is a no from me. I don't like it.

I don't think I've ever known a Polly, of any age. It does feel sort of old, country bumpkin, but also British at the same time? Apparently it dropped off the American Top 1000 in 1978, and it peaked at 221 in 1881. Definitely old fashioned, but names from that era are making comebacks... but I don't personally like it. I do like Poppy.

It reminds me of Polly Pockets. My 6 yo niece has started using this name on dolls when playing and when writing stories because of Polly Pocket lol.

I'm a bit weird, because I do like many names that others would consider to be cutesy, even though they are full word names such as Lily or Posy.

I also like Holly.

But I hate Molly and I find Polly really really cutesy, even though sound-wise it's close to Holly and I guess not any more cutesy than Posy?

But the fact that Posy and Poppy are word names and Molly and Polly are nicknames somehow does make a difference to me.

Now I don't find Polly too childish to use. I could see it working. But I don't really like it.

And yes, I'd pick Poppy. I find it cutesy but not as much as Polly. I also LOVE the flower. One of the most beautiful flowers.
