I really like this name, one of my favorites. Also, I'm sure she would like me. We'd probably get on fine.

I think it's ugly ugly ugly. It sounds like a chemical. Like an antiseptic spray. Like Bactine, but maximum strength.

I like it, though I’d use it on a character rather than a child.

I like it a lot. Maxine feels like she plays bingo at a retirement home, but I say this with affection - I think she's due for a comeback, what with masculine Max- names rising in popularity.

I really like it.And yes, it likes me too.

I love Maxine but I get the feeling she wouldn't like me. Most of the brassy names I love wouldn't pick me to hang out with I think.

The only thing that puts me off is the likelihood of Maxi (or, preferably, Maxie or Maxy!) as a nn. If Maxine can be kept intact, I like it very much, and I think it and I would get on well together.

It's my favorite aunt's name, but she's always gone by Mackie. She was named after my great grandfather, Max. It's certainly not in right now, but I think it will be before too terribly long. I hated it for a long time but now I'm starting to see it as stylish in an austere kind of way. It's not gentle or pretty or particularly "feminine." I think right now, that people embrace ultra soft names for girls or "unisex" names for girls like Harper and Avery that are tomboyish only in the most palatable way. They're "cute." Maxine is not. Maybe when we start to value a sort of femininity that isn't so damn pretty or cute but is instead strong or plucky, we'll like Maxine again.

I used to like it more than I do now, but I guess it'd be cool as a baby name.
I kinda think of it as being like other guynames with feminine endings. Like Pauline or Earline. Mostly antique.
But a little more hip than those, because the sound of Max is "in" and Paul & Earl are "out."

I love Maxine! I have for years. I went through quite a few middle names before settling on "Maxine Amelia" as my stock combo, which I don't foresee changing (and I'm not normally an Amelia fan).
