I think I'd always wonder what it was short for. Stephanie? Stephania? Anyway, there is a Stevie on Schitts Creek and it works for her. Personally, I would never use it.

I think it's a cute nickname, but I wouldn't use it alone.

I can think of at least 2 female Stevies I knew growing up. I'm just going to come right out and say it- I hate Stevie for a girl. I don't think it's cute or sweet. I find it grates on my ears, seems incomplete and gives me an impression of a rough, mean, kind of odd girl. Okay, so the Stevies I knew may have heavily influenced that last point but, regardless of that, I still dislike Stevie.

I used to hate it a lot, but it's growing on me a bit. This was one of the names a friend of mine considered for a girl and it made me stop and think about it for a bit. Plus I'm becoming more familiar with Stevie Nicks and learning to appreciate that association.

I hate it, it's weird and nerdy and unattractive. It's like the female equivalent of Dewey on males.

In high school, I knew a Stevie (nickname for Stephanie). She was about 4'10" and had the punk aesthetic down to a T. Personification of "Though she be but little she is fierce!" In that sense, I'd say she fit the name Stevie: outsized personality and fashion sense to boot. It's difficult to carry off, though.

Don't like it

As a shortened form of Stephanie, Stefanie, Stephanya, Stefanya, Stephania, Stephanya it's become accepted. But even then it doesn't make sense to me, since the V (sound or letter) doesn't turn up in these names as it does in Steven or Stephen. Steffi would be more intuitive.
Stevie as a full name? No. The only way to escape it and form your own identity would be Eve or Evie, which would cause even more confusion

I'm sorry but it's one of my least favorite names ever and I can't understand why it's getting popular.

It sounds so dated and makes me think of an older, greasy guy with a bad personality. On a girl it's terrible.

Stevie sounds so slimy and dirty (in a grubby way) I think of gas stations and oil and grease.

It's so self-consciously tomboy it's not even funny.
And even on a boy, it's babyish.

It's good enough for Stevie Nicks, although in her case it's short for Stephanie so I still don't know that this works as a full name. Also, be prepared for a massive amount of Fleetwood Mac references.

As a nn for Stephanie, I suppose it could work but I prefer Stef. As a full name in its own right, no. Too infantile to be a life sentence.
