I think it’s awful.

It has a rather ugly sound, in my opinion. It feels dated. I don’t think it should make a comeback.

I like it but it's too close to barrel. I like Beryl Ann.

I think it sounds too much like “barrel” for people to use. I don’t mind Beryl but that is a problem for me.

I really like Beryl! I actually *just* removed it from my gargantuan list to make room for Thessaly, but I'll always be fond of Beryl.

Beryl Ann is too plain for my liking. I'd opt for something like Beryl Eudocia, Beryl Thomasina, or Beryl Ianthe.

I find it extremely difficult to like. All I hear is Barrel, and that's before I factor in that I think B names come across as homely more often than not.

I don't think the Y looks 2000s like Madisyn; it looks 1950s like Cheryl and Caryl. So depends what you mean by "modern".

If I was looking for gem/rock/mineral names in English that are rarer than Pearl, I'd prefer...
Topaz, Celestine, Amethyst, Garnet, Emerald, and probably even Peridot, Lazuli, Aquamarine, Onyx, Olivine, Charoite, Nepheline.

I think it's better than Pearl or Opal. But it sounds enough like barrel when I say it, that I can't love it.
I'd use Emerald instead (same mineral!). Or Meryl.
I could imagine Beryl on a child, and it would be nice. I'd give it a more elegant middle name than Ann.
