Dutch or Scandinavian ancestry? It could possibly be an Americanisation of Lauritia, which in the Netherlands and Scandinavia is the feminine form of Lauritius, itself a (medieval) latinisation of
Laurits (all) and
Lauritz (only Denmark and Norway). At least as a
Dutch name it is fully archaic now, whilst the masculine counterpart
Laurits barely survives and was never common to begin with.
Even the patronymic surname Lauritsen is hanging by a thread over here.
