[Opinions] Elisha and Elijah
Replies
I prefer Elijah because it is easily recognizable and from a source EVERYONE knows about :)
Elisha does seem hyper-feminine so wouldn't use it on a boy.
I prefer Alisha to Alicia because it's less pretentious. But then, shouldn't it be spelled Aleesha? That's too black, I guess. Any person of any religion can use any name. Obvs.

They seem totally religious to me, though only in origin: Elijah and Elisha were just prophets, not so much foretelling events as ticking their people off for bad behaviour. I just see grumpy old men with long beards, in flowing robes and sandals, shaking their fists at imaginary opponents as they stomped through the desert. And it's not an image I favour at all. But if it works for anyone else, be they religious or not, then no doubt they will go for it and their son(s) will grow up happily with his name until he hits the age when no name is good enough; and in a year or two the dust will settle and it will once again become a name he's happy to have. Or not ... in which case I hope he's got a very different mn to fall back on.
I prefer Elisha's softer sound.
I see it as masculine, but I know a female Elisha who pronounces it exactly like Alicia (with -sha ending not -sya)
I wouldn't assume Elijah's parents were religious, because it is so popular right now. I might assume with Elisha because it is a less popular Biblical name.

I know three girls (two of them Muslim) who are called Elisha pronounced like Alicia. It wasn't until I was looking on BtN that I found out it was a Biblical boys name.
Elijah is becoming popular for boys, even though they're not religious. I do know more toddlers called just Eli than Elijah though.
I also know a ton of girls / women called Eli pronounced Ellie. It's a minefield!
