Well, I suppose the stereotype exists for a reason. A handful of my friends still living in Russia are named Boris. It's definitely in common use!
I have a love-hate relationship with this name. On one hand, it sounds rather clunky and comedic. But in the context of the people I know, it seems like any other name.
Also, a guy I dated in high school named his kitten Boris...only to later find out she was female. He never changed her name. Lol

Okay that's hilarious! I'm now picturing a Marie-type kitten (as in The Aristocats) called Boris.
