Help[Opinions] Judas?
This is a gp of mine. Judas Iscariot isn’t the best association, especially for a Christian like me to use on a child, but I just like the name Judas. It sounds very noble, and compassionate, in a way, and just warm and pleasant. Does anyone else feel this way?

I like the sound of the name, but not use it. I would use Jude though.

I also like this name, it just sounds pleasant.
And while I was raised Christian and therefore also have some negative connotations with it, I was also always taught not to condemn him as evil as it was all part of the plan. So I see him as a way more ambiguous character than some other historical figures (you know who I'm thinking of) whose names are now ruined. And frankly several whose names are oddly enough not ruined.
So honestly I think this name doesn't deserve this fate. But I still would only consider using it if I was an insanely wealthy celebrity who could shield my kid from negative experiences using my influence and money.

I don't like the Jud- sound, and for that reason I don't like Judith or Judy either. Or most of the Julius names, the only exception being Juliet where Shakespeare is a more powerful influence than my usual prejudice.

Judas Iscariot is really the only association anyone has with the name. So much so that it's now a common (though usually capitalized) noun: a Judas is a traitor or betrayer. a Judas goat was apparently a goat used to lure other goats in to be slaughtered, for instance.

Clearing something up
Just to make something clear: no, I have no intent on using this name and never will. I would not name a child after a betrayer, I’m just talking about the sound of the name itself.
Think of it this way: compare Judas to Jezebel. Many people agree that Jezebel has a very nice sound, but Biblical Jezebel is an obviously bad connotation.
People like the name Jezebel. Does that mean they will 100% want to use it on their child? No. They just like the sound of the name. Just because someone likes a name does not mean they want to use it. Thanks for reading this.

It has to be pointed out to the casual, perhaps one-time, users on this site, the ones who leave comments under the names, that this is not a baby naming site, and not geared towards expectant parents. Maybe it needs to be pointed out to the Ops regulars as well. I suggest this:

I think for all Judas's negative connotations, I'd stick to Jude if you feel inclined to use it for a son's name.

I was never inclined to use it and probably never will, I just like the sound of the name separate from the connotations.

Oddly enough, I don’t like Jude/Judah/Judea/Judith, for some reason, but I like Judas. Like I said before, though, it’s just a gp and I would never really use it.

I’m aware of that, and I wasn’t planning to use Judas on a child. I was talking about the sound when I said “noble, warm and compassionate”, because it reminds me of Julius and June. I would still never use it, obviously, but that’s just what it reminds me of besides Iscariot. I’m not too interested in Yehudah.
