The '50s and early '60s were rough years for Hollywood, resulting in the birth of New Hollywood (or the American New Wave, if you prefer) in the last few years of the 1960s. Bonnie and Clyde (1967), typically cited as the defining film of this new era, was nominated but didn't win. If/when I get around to a New Hollywood version of this game, you might get thematic whiplash while reading the plot summaries from the 1970s -- let's just say the era of straitlaced period dramas and family-friendly musicals fizzled out quickly.
Thanks for playing! :)
1. The Sound of Music (1965): A woman leaves an Austrian convent to become a governess to the children of a Naval officer widower.
2. A Man for All Seasons (1966): The story of Sir Thomas More, who stood up to King Henry VIII when the King rejected the Roman Catholic Church to obtain a divorce and remarry.
3. In the Heat of the Night (1967): An African-American police detective is asked to investigate a murder in a racially hostile southern town.
4. Oliver! (1968): After being sold to a mortician, young orphan Oliver Twist runs away and meets a group of boys trained to be pickpockets by an elderly mentor.
5. Midnight Cowboy (1969): A naive hustler travels from Texas to New York City to seek personal fortune, finding a new friend in the process.
