It’s a male name in my country (Renée would be very strange and outlandish sounding here) so it’s not weird at all on a male in my ears. In Denmark, if someone mentions a René, you’d assume it’s someone male. As of 2020, there are 121 women in Denmark called Renée. In comparison, there are 9500 male René’s here.
