The Golden Age of Finnish Art coincided with the national awakening during the time 1880–1910. Artists began to depict their homeland, its people, nature and history in their works, and thus taught Finns to discover the beauty and uniqueness of their country. Another source of inspiration was
Kalevala, the national epic of Finland. Finnish art became known also in Europe at Paris 1900 World Fair, where Finnish pavilion was one of the most popular pavilions.
