[Opinions] Amaryllis
I thought about this name. WDYT? Is it a mouthful? Would it be better off as a middle name?
I came up with these combos:
Amaryllis Claire
Amaryllis Ruth
Amaryllis Jo

I love Amaryllis! I think it yields enough nickname possibilities to make it viable as a first name. I recently made a poll about Amaryllis Eva, which I quite like.

I have to force myself to pronounce it correctly. My eye is always drawn to the MARY. So my first instinct is always uh-MEER-ee-liss rather than AM-uh-rill-iss. I don't like it as a name, just as a flower.

It is a bit of a mouthful, yes, but I adore it. I wish I could get my wife to agree to it haha.

Clunky rhythm. Lovely flower, but so what? And, what with the clunk and the length, it would need a nn, and what could that be? Mary? Ammie? Ryll? Marilla, as in LM Montgomery, would be vastly preferable.

It’s on my PNL and I do suggest it, but this one depends on my mood. Sometimes it feels fancy, quirky and botanical. Other times it feels ridiculous, and the “ryll” sound gets stuck in the back of my throat, making it feel unpleasant to say.

Amaryllis Jo is sweet. It’s a lovely name, but it still is a bit of a mouthful. I guess Amy could be a nickname, which I personally hate.

I like it a lot, it's outré and unusual. It would be prettier pronounced ə-MA-ril-is, though.

I like Amaryllis. I'm usually not big on frillier names, but I like this one. Yes, it's long, but not longer than Alexander or Olivia really.Your combos don't really do it justice though. It feels like trying to downplay Amaryllis as if you're not quite sure you're brave enough to use it.Suggestions Amaryllis Johanna
Amaryllis Rosalie
Amaryllis Marion
Amaryllis Edith
Amaryllis Colette
Amaryllis Juliet
Amaryllis Judith
Amaryllis Gwyneth

I was considering Amaryllis Judith and Amaryllis Noelle. It is a huge name!
Thank you for the suggestions!

I love Amaryllis Judith. Amaryllis Jude would be nice too, if you were looking for a one syllable middle still. Jude is a short form of Judith. :)

I was thinking about Amaryllis Jude too as well. Thank you.

It's ok as a mn

It is a bit of a mouthful and would make a fantastic middle name. That being said I do love your Amaryllis Ruth combo. It has a pleasant, Southern belle sort of vibe.
