[Opinions] WDYT of Laura?
I tend to gravitate toward L names, as well as M names. WDYT of Laura? What combos would you use with it? How does it compare to Lauren and Laurel?
I lean toward the classic names:
Laura Katherine
Emma Laura

Katherine Laurel
Emily Laura
Emma Katherine Laura
Top names:
Girls: Katherine and Emma
Boys: Daniel and Liam

I'm not really a fan of Laura personally.
I like Laurel though.

I think it’s pretty but overlooked. Laura strikes me as run-of-the-mill at first blush but it’s really pretty when I think about its sound. It’s an example of how when a name gets too popular, its beauty is kind of forgotten to me. But then I guess its beauty is the reason it became common in the first place :). Anyway, I’d love to hear of a baby Laura these days.
I first really noticed it while reading The Glass Ménagerie in high school.

I named my daughter Laura, so I would say that I love it (obviously) :)
I know someone who named her daughter Laura Olivia but will be calling her Olivia. (She loves TV. Fringe, Law & Order: SVU, Scandal....) I think it's a waste of Laura!
I like the associations of all of them with the laurel tree and victory. I also associate Laura with the Little House series of my childhood, and Hugh Laurie played an important role in my teenage years. (Dude is just super talented. House, A Bit of Fry & Laurie, his music albums, his cameos in random films, etc.)
So I could see myself using either Laura or Lauren nn Laurie. However, I wouldn't personally use Laurel because I foresee people not understanding it when spoken. And if it's used as a first name, she will be saying it quite a lot in her life!
My usage of Laura vs Lauren would probably depend on the combo used with it. Like if a vowel/consonant follows it.
Laura Danielle
Laura Simone
Laura Margot
Laura Marie
Lauren Emilia
Lauren Elisabeth
Lauren Isabella
Emily Lauren

I like Laura quite a bit, actually. It's one of those classics where I feel it would be more difficult to guess a person's age because it has always been in regular use -- not unlike Julia, Maria, Elizabeth, or Katherine. Laurel is nice as well although it's more difficult for me to pronounce. I'd only use it as a mn.
Combos:
Laura Juliet
Laura Madeleine
Laura Marielle
Laura Sophia
Laura Susanna
Cassandra Laurel
Marina Laurel
Rebecca Laurel
Susanna Laurel
ETA that while I like Lauren somewhat (look and sound) and have known my share of them, it's more trendy and is already dated. Therefore, it holds less appeal for me. It also bugs me that Lauren began as a short form of Laurence.

I couldn't use Laura, because I was always going to use Beatrice for family reasons, and it would have been too Italian 101. But I think that, with Alice, Helen and Lucy, it's one of my top favourites.
Laura Gillian is my default; others include Laura Bryony, Laura Caroline, Laura Eve, Laura Frances, Laura Joan, Laura Margaret ...
I don't enjoy either Lauren or Laurel, though I slightly prefer Laurel. I had a Laureen colleague once, and I thought that was the worst possible variant.

So...this is my name! As a kid, I didn't really like my name. I thought it sounded old and too girly (since I was a tomboy) and there weren't really any cool nicknames for it (though my sister calls me "Laur" all the time). But, as I got older, I learned to like it. And it made me love the Little House on the Prairie books because Laura was the main character. I also liked that it wasn't a super common name growing up too. And I like the meaning of "Victory" from laurel leaves.
I do get called Lauren A LOT, like at least once a week. And I am also called Nora and Laurel frequently. I also get the nickname Laurasaurus, which I love. And some kids call me Laura the Explorer, or just Dora (I work with kids), which I find sweet/funny.
It's funny you wrote the combo Emily Laura cause my sister's name is Emily. I heard "Emily and Laura" all the time as a kid, so it feels weird to have the names together, but the combination sound nice.
My name is Laura Kimberly and I really do love the flow of those two names together (apparently Kimberly was my Dad's middle name and it got passed down to me).
I like Laura Katherine and Emma Laura on your list, but what if you did:
Laura Kathleen
Laura Emmeline
Laura Emilia or Emilia Laura or Amelia Laura or Laura Amelia

I was just thinking about that name. I like it. It's classy.
I think it's drab, like beige wallpaper. Lauren is similarly bland but seems more pleasant to me, in comparison.
With Laurel, I don't like the sound that much, but I do like the flower, so the directness of that connection helps it from my POV.
I'd rank those and some other Laur / Lar names...
4/10: Laura, Laurie
5/10: Laurel, Lara, Larisa, Lauretta
6/10: Lauren, Laurentia
For combos, maybe
Laura Therese
Laura Ceridwen
Laura Magdalena
Laura Madeleine
Laura Gwendolen
Laura Josephine
Laura Penelope

I don't like it, and never have, due to a bad personal association. Years after the last time I saw the Laura I hated, I met another, unobjectionable Laura, but that just couldn't make me like the name. And of course, I knew that not every Laura is horrible anyway. That's just how it is.
I knew the Laura I hated so early in life that I don't know how I'd feel about the name if I'd never known her.
Sick as I am of Lauren, if I had to, I'd choose it over Laura, and definitely would prefer Laurel.

Love it. Katherine Emma would be nice too. All great name combos
I always liked Laura. It's classic but still has a stylish feel to it. I do think Lauren is more stylish. Laurel isn't ugly but it's kind of hard to say clearly without it being confused with Laura.
