I love it, but only as a nickname. And the only longer name I even remotely like for it is Araminta. For me personally it would be a stretch to use it, but not because of the mouse.

My grandma was named Minnie May ln. I spent about a third to half my time with her, until she died when I was 8.
I always wanted to name a girl May in honor of her and because it was the month my ex and I got married. However I had only boys and didn't think May was an option for a boy.
So, I adore the name Minnie but have some doubts about whether it's usable.

It reminds me too much of Minnie Mouse.

Yes, I think it's usable. To meet it's just a retro name ripe for revival, like Elsie, Mabel and Clementine, which have all made a comeback.

A friend's mother, from a non-English speaking family, was Wilhelmina, nn Minnie. When we were in about grade 8, we read a story in class in which there was a minor character called Minnie, and the class giggled. My friend was sad and also offended - "Why do people think it's funny?" - to which I had no answer. I was rather scared of her mother, but I couldn't take the name seriously and to this day I can't.
DH's cousin had a son named, I think, Andrew but nicknamed Pinny because as a baby and toddler his legs were extremely thin. Then his little sister Caroline became known as Minnie, just because it rhymed, and perhaps because she was smaller. We seldom see or hear about them, but I think that both nns have been dropped. Which is good!

I know a woman named Minnie, she's a doctor and no one bats an eye. It is her full name.
I think I would prefer it as a nickname, but it is useable.

We've recently had a calico cat and her three kittens paying us visits, and we've been feeding them. There is a house a couple of blocks away where the yard is full of cats and kittens. These people let their cats breed, and it's quite irresponsible. We figure that is where this cat and kittens came from. Oh, so yeah, I named the calico Minnie.
It's a perfect example of a people name that I don't like on people but would use for a pet.

A blend of sinister and comical. I think that the name Minnie has a slight comical vibe. I don't know. I wouldn't want to be named Minnie, I know that.

No, I'd say it isn't. Minnie Mouse. Mini this and Mini that. Plus, it just sounds dippy.
