On the last day of college, fearing that he would never see her again, Gustaaf asked Mimi to marry him. They had known each other for the four years Mimi had been at college, but Mimi still felt a need to stay with her family, and declined. She told him that she was fine if they were still dating, and she’d happily marry him, just not so soon. Gustaaf seemed to understand and told her they could put it off as long as she needed.

Eventually, he discovered that Ollie’s girlfriend, even if she did become Ollie’s wife, could never replace Eddie as a sibling. Ollie’s girlfriend’s first name is a more modern English name, her middle name is Irish, and her last name is English.
