[Opinions] Re: Real Life Nickname Stretch
in reply to a message by solveig
It's not a stretch though. It's right there and makes perfect sense as a nickname. I know changing the spelling on anything is a terrible sin on BTN but it's really not that big of a deal.
A stretch would be like, "We named her Emmaline but call her Ali because look, it's got -ali- in the middle there!"

Agree!
The stretches some people make in this board for hypothetical children make this one look tame.
Yes, it'll get a bit confusing spelling out Alizabeth every time, but it's not any wilder than other names I see.

True.
But I just feel for the kid having to constantly correct the spelling.

I think at least having to always say "Elizabeth with an A" is a lot less of an effort than a lot of kids have to go through, spelling the whole thing out every time.
For my own - I say the same thing - Barbra - spelled as the famous singer / celebrity Barbra Streisand spells it.
I still (vaguely) long to add Elizabeth to my name since the occasion that it was erroneously added on legal documents in lieu of my first name. I didn't think much of it at the time - but the name bears so much heritage, and with so many independent nicknames - there is "so much that can be done with the name".

Alizabeth still looks kinda dumb to me, though. Also there are zillions of Al/Ali names for girls if they were so set on that nickname.
Exactly my point.
