It was late at night, and Noelle couldn't sleep. She tossed and turned, but decided it was useless, so she snuck out of bed, and, being very careful not to step on Ali or Andrina, made her way to the piano. She had a song in her head begging to be played. It hadnt been written yet, so she wrote it. She picked it out on the piano. She got through the first ten measures that night, and then went back to sleep. The next night, she added fifteen more. She finished the first movement a week later. The second movement took another month of quiet night playing; it was longer, and the first had been incredibly impatient to be written. Marius was born in the middle of the third movement so she wrote him into it. The fourth movement took the longest, four months, to get just right. And then it was perfect. She played it whenever she couldn't sleep. And then one night, she decided that a crescendo would sound so amazing right before the end, but she didn't want to wake up Marius, but it was begging to be there, so she tried to start at pianississimo and go up to just mezzo piano. And she was right. It was perfect. It sucked her into the song until she was pounding on the keys and woke up Matthais (but strangely, not Marius.) The music hit him in the chest and burrowed itself into his heart. Maybe it wasn't the best music he had ever heard, but it was up there, and it was his favorite because of its composer. He did the only thing he could do: he sat down on the piano bench next to her and started sight reading. He missed rather a lot of notes, but it took him away and they reached the end and Matthais was crying. Noelle rested her head on his shoulder, communicating telepathic composer-thoughts, and then they went back to bed. She played the whole thing for him the next day and it was quite possibly his favorite thing he had ever heard.
He arranged for her to play at the church he composed for. She practiced nonstop. The day came. The church was full. By the end, there wasn't a dry eye in the room.
Molly and Leo have added to their family, as had Gideon and Beatrix. Everyone thought Anna was going to be an old maid, but she is now engaged to a painter and they (scandalously) have a daughter already.
Larkin is dating a merchant's daughter and Ariane has married a certain Lord Favager.
Becky has decided she's happy with just one daughter, and Gilead doesn't mind, so their family has stayed the same. Rachel and Emerens had two more daughters and a son.
Ida, sadly, died in childbirth. Kaleb was devestated. As if that wasnt enough, Sybil died too. Margaret survived, but Kaleb is too focused on their deaths to notice much.
