Rowland Blanchet's second wife, Sabrina, tragically died in childbirth. Even more tragically, Rowland wasn't fazed, considering he finally got to keep his son and heir.
Hester, for her part, has had to cope with some tragedy along with her husband. While they had two more sons, Andreas and Miguel, they lost their son Abraham. This made Hester realize that, like her own parents, she lost her two older sons, and she prayed and prayed her three remaining children would survive.
Prissy has married in the intervening five years, to Will Johnson - an employee, as it were, of her Uncle Nat, which is how they met. They have a young son together, Rufus. The only thing not to Prissy's taste about this arrangement is renewed proximity to her father, Owen. Victoria Priddy has also married a young gentleman named Stephen Jones, and little Edward is Nat & Vita's first grandchild. Wilbraham is courting a new serving wench at his aunt & uncle's establishment, The Roebuck. Her name is Athena, she is half Dutch, and he is amazed someone as beautiful and intelligent as her not only exists, but works as a serving wench.
Ben & Verena's family hasn't gotten any larger, but the two eldest boys are courting. Dieter fancies the daughter of a scholar, and Bas the baker's daughter. The family of Cornelis & Nell, meanwhile, is exploding. Timo & Gitta welcomed another daughter, Angela, while Jo married Andreina and they now have three daughters: Natalia, Teresa, and Claudia. Anselm also got married, to a girl he met while at the Sorbonne. Armelle and he have two daughters, Fleur and Juno. And Alton just met and fell head over heels for a Cornish girl who just started working as a maid across the street.
Titus and Maud have both, sadly, lost children. Titus & Nora's son Matthias died from fever, and Maud & Radboud's son Fortunato sadly fell into the Thames when he played too close to the bank. All four are coping with their losses as best they can.
