[Opinions] Derek

Derek is much more dated here than in the US, like Eric. I'd expect bearers to be 70+, like my Derek relative, who's 89. But yup that aside, it's not unattractive: it's an unusual-looking name - can't think of any other popular names ending in ek - and the sound is good.
Derrick is a sort of crane to me and looks wrong as a name. Derick is slightly better; closer to the original derivation.

I love Derek.
I really do.
I've never known one and I don't think it ever reached the level of popularity in Australia as it did in the US. I think Derek is very handsome, strong, and solid sounding. I also like how it looks written on paper. I'd probably include it in a long list of names I'd consider using on a real child if I had to name said child with another person and therefore had to compromise.
I don't like Derrick at all though. I dislike how it's written and I say them slightly differently although it's barely noticeable. I like Rick as a nickname for Richard and Richard is another name I would include on a long list of names I'd consider using on a real kid. But Derrick just looks like someone tried to use a name that they could get the nickname Rick out of without using Richard.

Derek is my stepbrother's name. I do like it, actually - but only spelled this way. For some reason, I think Derrick loses its charm.
I love Derek. I recently learned it was on my brother's short list for his son born last month. I don't think it's dated, just not up to contend with the trendy names. Still a solid option, and losing popularity is a plus in my book
I like it. It's got a slightly preppyish vibe spelled Derek, but I don't mind. I worked with a Dr. Derek ____ so it's familiar enough to me now that it's humanized. I also like Derrick. I prefer the way Derrick looks. However the "oil derrick" association bothers me a tiny bit, not when I meet someone named it, but when I think about using the name.
