[Opinions] Winter
Three questions.
What do you think of it overall?
Do you think it would be weird for a baby born at a different time of year?
Do you think it’s wordy enough to be annoying as a given name/ would you mind if it was your name?

I quite like the name Winter. Autumn and Winter are my favourite season names.
I love it.
No.
It's not annoying and I'd love to have it as my name.

I loathe word names. Annoying isn't really the right word, but sure.
With that said, I don't know if I like the -ter sound but I do like Win-. Winny is kind of cute on a kid, and I can see Win as she matures. It's certainly what I'd go by if it was my name. "Can't lose when your name is Win"
I'm not sure the time of year would matter. I know several Autumn's born different times of the year.

I like the sound of Winter, but I don’t think I will ever use it. I don’t think it’s too out there. Yeah it would be weird to use on someone born in a different season.
It's not horrible, but I don't really like it.
It sounds like a wannabe femme fatale, because it reminds me of Milady de Winter from the Three Muskateers and also just the symbolism of winter.
I think I'd feel the same way about Belladona or Hemlock if those became popular.

I'm fine with some word names, but I wouldn't want to be named Winter.

-I don’t mind it.
-I don’t necessarily think it would be weird for babies born in non-winter months. I have a friend named Winter who was born in spring and no one really thinks much of it. Not everyone named June is born in June. Winter works as a name year-round.
-I think it works as a name as is because of the use of other seasons. Summer and Autumn are common as names, so there’s no reason why Winter (or Spring) wouldn’t work.

I don’t love it. Season names like Summer, Autumn and Winter seem kind of dated, and “too easy” to me, you know? Like you just named her after the first thing you saw or thought of, and the kid was lucky not to be named “operating table” or “car seat”.
It also seems a bit wannabe-hippy to my ear. Like somebody who burns patchouli and dreadlocks their hair, but then drives a gas-guzzling SUV and eats their own weight in bacon.
I know the name always does well in polls on this site, though, so I’m probably alone here.

I really like it. I'd probably consider using it as a middle name. Eugenia Winter is an old standby. My only concern is when people pronounce it more like "winner", which I do not like the sound of.
I don't think it's weird for a baby born at a different time of year, but they'd get that question literally all the time.
I don't think I'd like to be named Winter as my first name tbh. But maybe! I could handle more established time-of-year names like Summer or April a lot better.

I like it, especially for a girl.
I would only like it for a child born in another season. If they were actually born in winter, it sounds like the parents had no name ideas and it was better than Female/ Male.
I can't decide. Some non-namenerds would probably find it too wordy and I understand why but "Winnie" definitely helps. I wouldn't actually mind it as my own name.

I quite like it. I'd consider it a MN only, but it wouldn't be the worst FN out there either.
It's more appropriate for a baby born in Winter (or a very cold Autumn maybe).
Oh and be prepared for some jokes though. I mean, with a name picked out like this, you could announce a pregnancy like this:
Winter is coming!

1. I like it. But I'm a big fan of comics and the Winter Soldier is my favourite character so I may be biased because it makes me think of him. I also like the snowy, tranquil vibe it brings to mind. I like it for any gender, but I do think it sometimes works best as a middle name because most of the time I try to pair it with something the flow seems better with it coming second to another name.
2. Yeah, probably would be weird for a child born in the middle of summer or something.
3. I don't think it's any more annoying than all the other common word names people use -Dawn, Summer, May, Hope, Jade, Phoenix, Lily, Aria, Destiny, Angel, Grant, etc. It's not one that strikes me as really "out there" like Symphony or Treasure or Arrow or Indigo. I have a friend named Snow. It's one of those names that people kind of remark on when they meet her, but it's not so insane that they go on and on about it or make fun of her or whatever. And I feel Winter falls into that same kind of category.
4. I'd like it as my name, sure. This is also one of very few names that I like the "tryndee" spelling for as well because spelling it Wynter reminds me of the name Wyn / Wynn which is cool to me.
