[Opinions] Prairie
I've always thought that Prairie is such a beautiful word. It makes me think of Joni Mitchell's songs. But is it usable as a name or is it too "out there"? (I'm not planning on using it, I just want to know what you think.)

I’m personally not a fan. I’ve spent much of my life in the Midwest and can only associate the word with endless flat cornfields / soybean fields and grassland. It makes me think of the boredom of driving on I-80 across Iowa and Nebraska. No thanks.

I think it’s usable. I’ve heard of it before. I like it but I’m not sure if I would use it.
Thank you for presenting this as a name. I've never thought or considered it.
It is a beautiful word, so, yes, it is certainly usable.
My first thought moves to possible short, diminutive names, which would occur naturally? - Prair, or Airie ?? Maybe others have better suggestions?
Other forms - pet, affectionate names or forms might be Prairia - Airia, or even Aria, like the operatic exacerbation?

I think it's a very pretty word too, but that it doesn't really make a good name. It doesn't really roll off the tongue very smoothly. It wants to slur into something that sounds more like Perry or Purry.
Also, there's a Muppet on Sesame Street, a little girl named Prairie Dawn. Which is cute, but well, Muppety.

What immediately comes to me is Prairie Dawn from Sesame Street. I can't really imagine it in use beyond that.
I do think it's a nice sound.
These are my associations: quaint, prayer, golden, expansive, tornadoes, prairie-fire aka indian-paintbrush, homesteaders, "A Prairie Home Companion".
I'd compare it to Primrose and Savanna (before those caught on). It's usable if you like uncommon nature names.

my first thought is Prairie Dawn from Sesame Street. it's kinda cute.
How weird that I was thinking about Prairie the other day. I first heard it used on a character in a book years ago and I think it’s cute.
It’s too out there for me personally but I could see it working on someone else’s kid. I might be more inclined to use one of its synonyms, like Savanna or maybe Meadow.

I really like Prairie! I met one in grad school a few years ago, and it suited her beautifully. She helped me realize how usable it is.
