Not really? I love the meaning and the sound isn’t bad, but the connotation (at least to me, having been raised in the US) is of an elderly woman from the rural Deep South who doesn’t trust “newfangled citified ways.” I know it’s unfair because names don’t have ages and Alva is mostly Scandinavian, but that’s just the feel it has to me.

Yes, it’s very pretty. Alv means «elf» in Norwegian, which I think is cool meaning for a name. I also like other alv-names like Alvilde/Alvilda and Alvira for girls and Alvar and simply Alv for boys.

Yes, I think it's a cute name. It's soft, sweet and simple.

Alva is adorable. I know a little girl with Alva as her mn.

I like it. I named my daughter Elva and prefer that one over Alva. Somehow Alva feels a little masculine to me. I blame this on ahistorical figure with the NN Alva (Duke of Alba). He once occupied the city I was born in and so Alva has a little negative feeling added to it, that Elva doesn't have. Other than that Alva is a nice name and I doubt anyone else will see it as masculine or see a negative connection to it.

Nope, it has always been a name that I dislike. It's been super popular for girls here for the past few years, and it just sounds so extremely childish and cutesy. It's really close to the Swedish word for 'fairy' (Älva) and I think that's what makes it so cutesy. I bet there's a ton of Alva's out there with a sister named Tindra ('sparkle'). Eww.

Yeah, I first saw it listed as Thomas Edison's MN several years ago, and it's grown on me since then.

Yes, for either sex though I like Alvah a bit more as the boy spelling. Elva and Alba are nice as well.
