Help[Opinions] Hiram
so when i came across this name in a book a while ago, it was really funny to me, i think because it so perfectly fit the story (which is the members of a fictional fundamentalist group). so it wasn't so appealing to me.
lately though, i've liked lesser used Biblical names like Hiram. first i only liked it said HEER-am, and was disappointed when a poll showed that apparently most everyone says it HIE-ram. but now i kind of like that pronunciation too. it feels less grumpy to me and more warm. and i like H- and -m names a lot when i come across them, but there's not so much of either out there that i'd use (at least ones used in English).
wdyt? is it usable on a kid nowadays?

I like it. I am currently watching Riverdale, the netflix series, and one of the characters is named Hiram (full name Hiram Lodge). They pronounce it HIE-ram. I like both ways to pronounce them, I don't really think of any of them as the better or worse way to pronounce it. I think it is a nice name, I really like the sound of it.

I think it's useable. It's an actual name, not difficult to say or spell.
I've been saying it mentally with my own last name(an Arabic one), and it works well.

i guess i meant usable as in like, the kid wouldn't be picked on a lot. i think maybe i've read too many mean comments on this site- there are so many that go like "omg this is such an UGLY and AWFUL name and i would drop kick any nerdy kid named this!!" though you can pick on almost name, especially if it's uncommon.
also it does sound similar to many Arabic words and names i've heard and love, especially with the gentle -m ending (and also of course since it's related to Hebrew). i'd maybe pair it with an Arabic middle name if it was appropriate for me to use. i'm not naming kids now either though lmao.

I actually like it too, I thought I was the only one! I wouldn't personally use it for my own kid, but I definitely think it's usable for a kid today- there are lots of Biblical names in the top 1000 that I honestly think seem much less usable... I pronounce it HIE-ram; the other pronunciation (which I never thought of) sounds like "hear 'em"... For some reason I group Hiram and Harlan together, I guess they do sound similar.
