It's a family name for me and I've thought about using it as a middle name but I find it way too awkward as a first name. I'm not opposed to it personally but I'd feel self-conscious telling someone that was my kid's name because it is commonly held up as the prime example of an "ugly" name with Gertrude and the like. I'm all for strong female names but Winifred kind of sounds bumbling to me rather than strong sometimes? Almost cartoonish?

I like Win and Winnie and many other nicknames. I just know I wouldn't like to introduce myself as Winifred myself, not even a little bit. I can't picture it on a young adult woman trying to find her way in the world at all. I just can't.

The first time I heard this name was in the Winnie the Pooh show I think? There was a letter signed "Winifred" and there were lines like "What's a Winnie Fred?" "Winifred is.... a GIRL" because apparently the Winnie the Pooh characters had never met a girl before despite Kanga existing. lol

I like Winifred. Mostly because I love the meaning. Also, I like a lot of feminine names that end in D, and my grandpa's name was Fred.

It's kind of cute but also kind of dorky. Winnie could definitely make a comeback even though it's not my cup of tea. I think especially in England where nickname names are common. Winifred, I'm not sure about that...the 'fred' part might put some people off. It's cute but I wouldn't like to be named Winifred myself. I would like to see it on someone else.

I always liked Fred/die as a nickname, but after changing my mind on loving Theo, i'd be hesitant to do that again. I also don't mind Winnie too.
The only issue I had is that our nephews name is Winston, so I thought it might be too close, but we rarely see them so meh.

I like it but don't really care much for the nicknames, so it's middle name only for me. I assume a nickname is unavoidable but I could be wrong.
