A girl named Cherie lived next door to me until I was... 5? 6? Old enough for me to remember her, young enough to only do so vaguely. All I remember is she ripped the head off a rag doll I had and my mother still held it against her years after she moved, haha. She pronounced it as shə-REE but I have no idea if the pronunciation was a pain for her or not, and even if it was I'd be speaking as someone from a different country. My instinct is that most people would pronounce it as Sherry, which I actually strongly prefer because I love the song so much!
