[Opinions] Cherie
What do you think of Cherie, pronounced She-REE, with the accent on the second syllable? Do you think the pronunciation would be a pain? What do you think of the name in general?

I have a weird story, so bare with me. This name honestly makes me think of a lady that uses my library. My name is Chelsea and we have the same last name. Since the library labels items on hold with your last name and the first three letters of first, they are always getting out stuff mixed up.

My cousin has that name and that exact pronunciation. She has no trouble with it. Cherie Olivia is her name. I think it's pretty.

The pronunciation isn't really more of a pain than Marie is. What I don't like is how the E may tend to get dropped if the second syllable is stressed, and it becomes Shree. I had a friend who named a cockatiel Cherie. Nice bird name. I don't really mind it as a human name but it's nms because of the "what if she goes to a French speaking place." And also it's got a certain playful 60s style that didn't age well, like Misty, Nikki, Starla, Candy.

A girl named Cherie lived next door to me until I was... 5? 6? Old enough for me to remember her, young enough to only do so vaguely. All I remember is she ripped the head off a rag doll I had and my mother still held it against her years after she moved, haha. She pronounced it as shə-REE but I have no idea if the pronunciation was a pain for her or not, and even if it was I'd be speaking as someone from a different country. My instinct is that most people would pronounce it as Sherry, which I actually strongly prefer because I love the song so much!

I don't think the pronunciation would be a pain - I've encountered many Cheries, Cherees, Sharees, etc. I would just find it horribly dated if I saw it on a little girl today (makes me think of the 70s and early 80s).The band Suicide has a good song called "Cheree"... still don't like the name, though.
