I am trying to pronounce it with a -th- sound and it sounds really strange and lispy. It's EST-her, not ESTH-er and the h sound is pretty much dropped.
My second cousin is named
Esther, she'll be six in a couple months, so people use it. They're Jewish though, and all three kids have very Jewish names.
