I am trying to pronounce it with a -th- sound and it sounds really strange and lispy. It's EST-her, not ESTH-er and the h sound is pretty much dropped. My second cousin is named Esther, she'll be six in a couple months, so people use it. They're Jewish though, and all three kids have very Jewish names. I really like it, it's my favorite of the three names you posted.

i thought it was just me personally having trouble with "th" sounds. ty for the explanation.

I agree I've never heard Esther pronounced phonetically before, at least not in the United States. In terms of the three names you listed, I prefer Elaine! It's the least old lady-ish of the three to me.
