It's been a favorite of mine for decades. I think a Silas is smart, handsome in a down to earth way, humble, and friendly.

Silas is great, so handsome and masculine. I don't have one particular image in mind of what a Silas could be. I think it could suit many different personalities.

Like Simon, it starts with a Sigh! However, unlike Simon, it's never been so popular that the Sigh effectively disappears under the weight of its other associations.Silas, therefore, is an unfashionable biblical name with suggestions of gloomy negativity.

I never cared much for this name. It sounds like a hillbilly name. It also always made me think of Cialis.

I have loved this name ever since I first met a 6 year old boy with this name - that was around 10 years ago. I love that Silas was probably a short form of Silvanus. As much as I love the naturey woodsy Silvanus it just seems a bit too over the top to actually use - Silas feels much more usable. When I hear the name Silas I always picture a boy or a man with green or hazel eyes.My husband says that the name reminds him of snakes hissing and that it seems like the name of a villain. I think he pictures someone similar to Voldemort or possibly Draco Malfoy. There was a villain named Xilus in the old Dungeon and Dragons movie that is pronounced very similar to Silas. So I doubt we will ever have a son named Silas.

Silas has been on my list pretty much from the beginning, but I don't think about it much. I happened to come across it on two characters just before I got into names, and I thought it was super cool and unusual, especially with the meaning (also thought it was spelled Sylas). It has a mysterious, serious, intelligent and intriguing feel to it. I'd imagine Silas would be very responsible, thoughtful, and carefully plan everything out.

I really like Silas, but I admit I imagine someone who is not very well educated and who is a bit of a bumbler. However, a Silas is very kind-hearted and always means well.
