[Opinions] Re: Lavinia

I love Lavinia and I don't think it's over the top. I knew a girl named Lavinia when I was in college.
I'd hesitate to use it as a first name, however, because I wouldn't want her to be called Vinnie. I don't recall that the Lavinia I knew was ever called Vinnie, but still, I believe that a first name should not be used if any nicknames for it are disliked. It's always a possibility. There are people who insist on calling others by nicknames.
It's definitely not stylish, but whether or not you'd call it faded or a relic would be a matter of opinion and not fact. Both of those adjectives are negative. Neither one comes to my mind when I think of the name Lavinia. I think elegant and vintage.
I would definitely consider it as a middle name, but probably only with a one syllable first name.
