I don't like male names that end in -a, and Asa is definitely male! I wouldn't use it, and I'd expect anyone who did to be extremely religious - or to have no religious knowledge at all. I pronounce it AYsa, AY to rhyme with hay and stay. But I'd be concerned that people might guess wrong and say ARSa ...
