[Opinions] Claire
Thoughts on Claire? It's been on my mind lately but I have trouble thinking about it objectively because it's the name of my best friend who I've known for most of my life. It throws off my perception of the name... I don't know if I like it or if I just think fondly of it because I have such a strong association tied to it. So... any thoughts? Do you like it/dislike it and why or why not?we all share the same sky - the maine

I far prefer Clare, which is the traditional English (as opposed to French) version, and I'd happily use it.I wouldn't use Claire. The extra letter does nothing to, er, clarify the pronunciation and just succeeds in looking pretentious.

Claire was a name my father liked for me. (The other was Tanaquil. Bit of a difference.) He appreciated the sound, meaning and Frenchness. I think it would suit me well. I once wished it had been chosen for me instead of Fiona, because of its spare beauty. I associate it strongly with a person I'm not terribly fond of, but if I could shake that association I think it might be one of my favorites. It's certainly up there on the list of common names I'd be most likely to use, although Jane would eclipse it. (But my FI thinks Jane is too plain. Sigh.)Claire is a name I think would suit many different people. I'd love to see Clair used for men more. Some words that describe Claire to me:Spare
Refined
Strong
Light
Clear
Confident
Common
Poetic

I went to school with so many girls called Claire that I considered it to be boring, but in recent years, I have fallen in love with it. It's feminine and pretty, and yet, not frilly. I normally prefer names with nicknames, but don't mind that Claire doesn't have one. It's too short and sweet to need a nickname. I have a character called Clare in my WIP, and I slightly prefer this spelling.

I find it to be a softer name--with, at least to me, about as little fricative sonority as possible. I love that it is appropriate for males & females, though particular spellings may help differentiate between the genders - I am not too certain here.I wondered when younger if such a name would be more appropriate for me than my own, which also reveals that I like the name.

Hi !!I love Claire since I was a child.I love how it is written, how it sounds in French with the 'ai' read with a lovely open 'e'.I love its meaning 'famouse' and 'fair, bright' and I think that its French origin mskes it more romantic. It has 9/10 in my list.As I'm Italian I prefer Italian FNs and I'd love foreign names as MNs.So currently I love the combo Stella Claire which would totally means 'bright star'.
